About Álvar García de Santa María
Alvar Garcia de Santa María ( Burgos , 1370-1460) was a historian and bishop Spanish Jewish convert or new Christian. When he was only twenty two, was named by Ferdinand I of Aragon royal adviser and chronicler of the Kingdom of Castile and more afternoon of the kingdom of Aragon, being chronicler of Juan II of Castile .
Member of a powerful Castilian Jewish family, he was brother of the historian Pablo García de Santa María , and how he converted to Christianity in 1390, the year of the assaults on the Jewish quarters and the preaching of San Vicente Ferrer . Amador de los Ríos credits him with the Chronicle of Don Alvaro de Luna (1546), written between 1455 and 1460 and attributed by Nicolás Antonio to Antonio Castellanos , and by AD Deyermond to Gonzalo Chacón (d.1517). Álvar García de Santa María would be the compiler of the collective work known as Crónica de Juan II .
