Old Smoke, which by 1825 had been "Head Man" for nearly 20 years at the time of Lone Man's death took Red Cloud's mother Walks As She Thinks, Red Cloud, his younger brother Big Spider and in infant daughter into his tribal group. The four year old Red Cloud was educated as a warrior by Old Smoke and his brother White Hawk.
