The first rabbi of Dragomireşti was Rabbi Moshe Stern the son of Rabbi Binyamin of Perbenik. He was born in the year 5612 (1852). He was the son-in-law of the wealthy Reb Yitzchak Leib Kahana of Oberwischau [Vi%C5%9Feu de Sus]. After being supported by his father-in-law for about ten years, he was chosen as the rabbinical judge and teacher by the community of Dragomireşti (From the Marmarosh Book, In Memory of 160 Jewish Communities, JewishGen Page 161
His grandson, however, writes in his biographical introduction to מכתם לדוד ח"ב that he was born in 1840, in the year following the death of his namesake, R. Moshe Sofer of Pressburg; this fits better with his wife's age (34 at her death in 1878), the alleged birth date of his son Shmuel Zanvil (1862), an apparent mention as prenumerant (subscriber) to a book published in 1859, as well as explaining his absence from his parents' household in Perbenyik in the 1869 census.
