About 1st wife of John Crow, of Hartford
John Crow was born in 1606, England; died Jajuary 16, 1686, Hartford, CT.
His name appears on Hartford's Founders Monument.
He sailed to New England by 1635, possibly aboard the 'Lion,' settling at Hartford, CT, then Hadley, MA where he was freeman 1666. He returned to Hartford by 1676. He married Elizabeth Goodwin as his second wife about 1640, probably at Hartford, CT. There is no information available on his first marriage.
It has been noted that John Crow, Sr. was probably married before he married Elizabeth about 1644, and so any children with a birth date before that year were from the first marriage. "Great Migration" states John and Elizabeth married by about 1640, but U.S., New England Marriages puts their marriage about 1645.
The following are children of John Crow, thought to be of his first wife (name unknown):
- Esther, born 1628; married 1655, Giles Hamlin, Esq, of Middletown; died August 25, 1700, aged 72.
- John, lived in Fail-field; was a merchant in the West India trade; died at sea, 1667, without children.
- Samuel, married May 17, 1671, Hannah, daughter of Capt. William Lewis, of Farmington; slain at Fall's fight, May 18, 1676
- Nathaniel, lived in East Hartford; married Deborah ____; died July 30, 1695; his widow married Andrew Warner, of Hartford, afterward of Windham.
