Venetiana Taubner-Calderon (Veza Canetti), born Nov 21st 1897 in Vienna was a jewish writer who published socio-critical short stories in the "Wiener Arbeiterzeitung" - the central paper of the Social Democratic Party of Austria in the 1930s.
Because of Venetiana Taubner-Calderon publishing under pseudonym, the attribution of her texts was done very late (1980s) by the german scholar Helmut Göbel (University of Göttingen).
It was also then, when Venetiana Taubner-Calderon's short stories were published as books under edition of her husband Elias Canetti, who all the years before tended to retain her work.
In her stories Venetiana Taubner-Calderon shows ambition to depict phenomena of human lives in their affliction of social and individual circumstances. Suicide, violence, abuses, redundancy and eagerness of power are the phenomena in the character's lives and behaviour.
After being unknown for a long time, the short stories met with success in the 1990s.
Venetiana Taubner-Calderon died on May 1st in 1963.
