• Son of Sir Henry Morgan Vane and Louisa Farrer.
• Married Lady Catherine Sarah Cecil, daughter of William Alleyne Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Exeter and Lady Georgina Sophia Pakenham, on 28 June 1881 at St. Thomas's, Portman Square, Marylebone, London
• Died on 28 December 1918 at age 64 at Raby Castle, Durham, County Durham, England
• Buried on 31 December 1918 at Staindrop Church, Staindrop, County Durham, England.
• Educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England
• Graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1876 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
• Admitted to Inner Temple in 1879 entitled to practice as a Barrister-at-Law.
• Succeeded to the title of 9th Baron Barnard of Barnard's Castle, in the Bishopric of Durham [E., 1698] on 30 May 1892, after his right to the succession was challenged by a Captain Francis Forester of Croom, County Limerick.
• He graduated from Durham University, Durham, County Durham, England, with a honorary Doctor of Civil Laws (D.C.L.)
• Invested as a Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.)
