• Son of Henry de Vere Vane, 9th Baron Barnard of Barnard's Castle and Lady Catherine Sarah Cecil.
• Married Lady Enid Victoria Rachel Fane, daughter of Lt.-Col. Anthony Mildmay Julian Fane, 13th Earl of Westmorland and Lady Sybil Mary St. Clair-Erskine, on 25 August 1914.
• Died on 9 October 1917 at age 35 at France, from illness contracted on service in France, without issue.
• Educated between 1895 and 1900 at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, and at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire
• Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Madras between 1903 and 1907.
• Gained the rank of Major in the service of the Yorkshire Hussars.
