Obit from Messenger of Truth Issue 26, 1942:
Brother Jacob P. Harms, son of Peter and Gertrude Harms, was born in Russia Dec. 31, 1872. He passed away 7:00 P.M. Dec. 8th, 1942, attaining the age of 69 years 11 months and 7 days.
At the age of 2 years he with his parents immigrated to America settling near Hillsboro, Kans., where he grew to manhood. In 1894 he with others moved near Weatherford, Okla. Three years later; June 6, 1897 he was united in marriage to Millie Johnson of the same place. They shared joys and sorrows 45 years and 6 months.
To this union were born 3 sons and 5 daughters, 1 daughter preceded him in death in her youth.

He leaves his sorrowing companion, 3 sons, Harry and Roy of Michigan, Otto of Alabama; 4 daughters, Mrs. Glen Litwiller, Mrs. Clarence Schneider, Mrs. Russel Haynes of Michigan; 36 grandchildren, 3 brothers and 2 sisters besides many other relatives and friends.
In Aug. 1908 he with his family moved from Oklahoma to Michigan, settling near Ithaca, where they have resided with the exception of a few winters in Alabama.
In Jan. 1913, after having felt his lost condition, he was baptized upon repentance and the confession of his faith; being united with the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite.
About 3 years ago he was afflicted with heart complications from which he never fully recovered. During this time, realizing that his end might be near, he again renewed his covenant with God, endeavoring, though in weakness, to serve his Creator.
A few months ago he began to fail day by day growing weaker, until his end came peacefully Tuesday evening, Dec. 8, 1942. All during his affliction he was very patient and endeavored to get all things in readiness.
We deeply feel our loss, but sorrow not as those who have no hope and feel to say, "Thy will be done."
"Lord, give us strength our loss to bear, And lead us in the heavenly way; Oh, may we meet our father there, In realms of everlasting day."
Funeral services took place in the home Dec. 11, where words of comfort were spoken with a word of prayer. At the Newark Mennonite Church at 2 P.M. Brother Francis Peters read a passage and spoke words of comfort, then led in prayer. Brother F. F. Haynes chose for his text "Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of Man cometh at an hour when ye think not" (Luke 12:40), and spoke therefrom. Then Brother F. C. Fricke added briefly and closed with prayer. The brother was laid at rest in the Greenwood Cemetery at Ithaca, Mich.
