Abel (78), from Farm Oorbietjiesfontein, Hartbeesfontein was murdered on 6th April 2004 during an attack. His wife Hermina (Ermini) (71), was assaulted but survived.

They were attacked when they returned from town to their farm, Oorbietjiesfontein, at around 09:30. Mr. Pardau confronted a young man in the kitchen while his wife rushed into the house to get her firearm, Supt. Louis Jacobs, police spokesman, said. "When she returned to the kitchen, she saw her husband lying in a pool of blood. The suspect turned towards her and attacked her with a knife. She suffered cuts and stab wounds to her arms and face."

According to Jacobs, the suspect Mrs. Grabbed Pardau's firearm and rushed out the door. She went to call for help from farm workers. According to Jacobs, Mr. Pardau was already dead when help arrived. He suffered several stab wounds and one in the armpit is believed to have caused his death.
