About Abial Crane

Abial Reed was born in Moriah, Essex Co., New York on Mar. 20. 1825. She married on Mar. 23, 1843 with JAMES H. CRANE, son of Samuel Crane and Katurah Roundy. He was born Jan. 23, 1815 in Washington, New Hampshire. They rem. to Maquoketa, Iowa in 1854, and still reside there. He died May 21, 1888 in Maquoketa, Jackson Co., Iowa; she died Jan. 12, 1908 in Humboldt, Humboldt Co., Iowa. Both buried at the Buckhorn Waterford Cemetery, Buckhorn, Jackson Co., Iowa.

Children were: Mary J. (b. Moriah 6/16/1844), Watson E. (b. Moriah 1/14/1850), and Julia E. (b. Maquoketa 1/18/1856).

Obit: HUMBOLDT INDEPENDENT (Jan 16, 1908): Abial Reed was born March 20th, 1825 at Moriah, New York and died of pneumonia at Humboldt, Iowa on January 12, 1908 at the age of 82 years, 1 month, and 22 days. She was married to James H. Crane on Mar. 23rd, 1843.

To this union three children were born, Mary Josephine, now Mrs. Oliver Beckwith; Watson of Laurens, Iowa and Julia (nee Mrs. Arthur Wyatt) who died Apr. 2nd, 1900. In 1854 she moved with her husband to Maquoketa, Jackson Co., Iowa. Her husband died May 23, 1888.

Since 1889 she has made her home with her daughter, Mr. Beckwith, who, with the son Watson and several grandchildren remain to mourn her loss. he united with the Congregational church at an early age and has since been a consistaent member of that church. Services were conducted at the residence of Mr. Beckwith Monday p.m. of this week and the remains were conveyed by train to Maquoketa for burial, leaving Monday afternoon by way of the C. & N.W. Rwy, accompanied by her son Watson. Mrs. Crane was highly regarded by all her many acquaintances made her in Humboldt.
