Wife of Rueben Gage who came to Texas abt. 1834 and received a land grant for a League of land as a colonist. He and Abigail along with several of their children returned to Arkansas prior to 1840 as they are listed in the 1840 Census in Saline County Arkansas. Reuben died in Arkansas 1844, burial location unkown.
Mother of Moses Gage, who did not return to Arkansas with his parents, and is buried here. Presumably Abigail returned to Texas upon the death of Reuben. She is listed in the 1850 Census as living in the same household with Moses and family in Bastrop County, Texas.
Aunt of General Edward Burleson of Texas Revolution Fame.
Information on the Gage burials in this cemetery was obtained from the Claiborne family records, courtesy of Mattie Claiborne FAG# 73316140, and James Edwards FAG# 90800735
The Gage burials in this cemetery were marked by rocks but mapped in the Claiborne family records. You can see the original rock/headstone marker behind the marker in this photo. New headstones were purchased, for all the Gage graves in this cemetery, in 2001 through generous donations from members of the Gage Family Reunion Association, who are descendants of James Gage FAG# 5657703 and Elanora Pointer Gage FAG# 5657704.
