Abbie Forsyth (Pond)

Abigail "Abbie" Pond Forsyth Newren was the daughter of Brigham Pond and Catherine Whittle Pond. She was married to Sterling Clyde Forsyth on Oct. 19, 1929, in Bountiful, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Sterling preceded her in death on April 1, 1978.

Abbie graduated from the University of Utah with a BS in Elementary Education in 1958 and taught school for many years in Salt Lake City, Price, and Spring Canyon, Utah. She was known for her artistic abilities and made art come alive for her students.

She was active in the LDS Church throughout her life and served in the Primary, Young Women's, Relief Society - and her favorite calling was as ward librarian in a number of Salt Lake City wards. With her husband, Clair, she appeared on many musical programs at Salt Lake Valley rest homes. Both traveled widely throughout the world.

On March 26, 1982, she married Clair Newren in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She died on May 17, 1995, in the East Lake Care Center, in Provo, Utah, of Alzheimer's disease.

She is survived by her husband, Clair, of Salt Lake City, Utah; 2 sons, David P. Forsyth, of Provo, Utah; Gary P. Forsyth, of Helena, Montana; one daughter, Linda Hoffmann, of Denver, Colorado. A daughter, Suzanne Hiskey, preceded her in death. She leaves 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, one brother, Howard Pond, of Walnut Creek, California.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 20, 1995, at the Larkin Mortuary in Salt Lake. Interment was at the Logan City Cemetery.
