From military records: Burcham, Abijah. Age 21. Residence Ozark, Ark., Nativity Tennessee. Enlisted mustered Jan. 1, 1864. Mustered out July 20, 1865, Little Rock, Ark

Based on enlistment, Abijah's service included winter of 63-64, the 18th was assigned garrison duty at Ft Smith,Ark. The regiment was engaged in battle at Saline River,Ark Apr 4 1864, Prairie d Ane, Ark Apr 9-11 1864, Poison Springs,Ark Apr 18 and Camden,Ark Jul 13. The regiment continued garrison duty at Ft Smith until muster out alternating between starvation and plenty since river below them was blockaded thus the unit had to depend in large part on foraging.

Note: His brother Burcham, B. Ross. Age 33., same residence nativity, enlisted same day into same company. Deserted Aug. 2, 1864 Spadra Bluffs, Ark.

His brother Burcham, Henry C. Age 20. same residence,nativity enlisted Jan. 20,1864 into company D. Killed in action April 1, 1864, Saline, Mo.
