About Abraham Danner

No conclusive evidence has ever been found indicating who the parents of Abraham Tanner can be. There are several reasons why I believe he may be a son of the famous Rev. Jacob Danner, Brethren minister, from York Co., PA. It's a fact that Rev. Jacob's family is found as "Tanner" more often than any other Danner family in the area. Abraham was born before 1755...possibly in York Co., PA (1800 census). Ancestry Family Trees give his wife Barbara's birth date as 1746. If this is correct and Abe is Barbara's age, then Elizabeth Bechtel doesn't fit to be Abe's mother because she didn't marry Rev. Jacob Danner until 1750. Abe would have to be from a first marriage and his father would have to be about age 19 when Abe was born. According to his will, Abe died in Bethel Twp., Bedford Co., PA before 17 Apr 1805. The main reason I believe Abe is a son of Rev. Jacob is simply because they both married a Bechtel. I presently know of NO other Danner family related to Bechtels although I've seen Bechtels in Berks Co., PA so Abe could be from that large Danner family of Chester/Berks, PA. The second reason for my Brethren belief is because there are NO church records found for them which is typical of a Brethren family. The third reason is because Abe was in Washington Co., MD in 1790, and it could be Rev. Jacob Danner who purchased land called "Good Neighbor" west of Hagerstown in 1776. A fourth reason is simply because Abe had a son named "Jacob"...but then again the Berks Danners also descend from a John "Jacob" Danner 1730-1771 who appears to be a first cousin to Rev. Jacob Danner 1727-1799. Abe's wife was Barbara Bechtel born 14 June 1746 Rockhill, Bucks Co., PA, died Apr 1811 Bethel Twp., Bedford Co., PA. Information about this Abraham Tanner family is very sketchy. Their children: Anna; Sarah; Hugh; Christian; George; Isaac; Esther m. Conrad Jr. Waltz/Wells; Jacob m. Sarah Hess & Charity Frazey Correll. The burial place of Abraham & Barbara Tanner is not known. They may, or may not, be buried in the Bechtel Farm Cemetery.
