About Abraham Jans Haring

He settled on a portion of the Haring tract in the Tappan Patent to the west side of Tappan Road, near Meadow Lane, in what was then considered Tappan, NY, but would become Norwood, New Jersey, in 1769 when the New York-New Jersey boundary dispute was settled. The tract abutted that of his brother Cosyn Jans Haring to the northwest, that of Daniel DeClark & their mother Grietje Haring to the northeast, and that of his brother Peter to the south.



Died at the age of 90 years 3 month and 23 days


Abraham Jans Haring

Abraham Jans Haring was the son of Margaret "Grietje" Cozyns and John "Jan" Pieterse Haring. Abraham married Dirckje Tallman June 24, 1707 in Tappan, New York.

The family moved to the Tappan, New York area and settled on a portion of the Haring tract in the Tappan Patent to the west of Tappan Road in what would become Northvale and Norwood. In the Name of God Amen I Abraham Haring of the County of Orange and Province of New York yeoman being perfect in memory and understanding, thanks be to God for the same do make and declare this my last Will and Testament in a manner and form following ( that is to say )

First and principally recommend my soul into the Hand of the Almighty God hoping to be saved by the alone Merits of my blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and my Body to the Earth to be decently buried according to the discretion of my Executrix and Executors herein after named, and as touching such Temporall Estate as God in his Mercy hath blessed me withal in this World I give and bequeath and dispose of the same as followeth.

Item I give and bequeath unto my eldest son Abraham Haring (the following Personall and Real Estate) provided he pays the following Legacies herein after expressed (that is to say)

First I give unto my son Abraham aforesaid

Five Pounds being for his Birth Right or Right at Law being the eldest son, New York Currency to be paid to him, his Heirs and Assigns three months after my Decrease.

Secondly, I give unto him my son Abraham and to his Heirs and Assigns (on Conditions) hereafter expressed, all that Lott of Land called and known by the name of the Church Lott with all the improvements thereunto belonging.

Likewise I give unto my son Abraham aforesaid, his Heirs and Assigns as many acres of land to be taken out of the South End bounds my Farm I live on and to be added unto the Church Lott aforesaid, as will make the said Church Lott equal in numbers of acres to the remainder of my Farm I live on aforesaid.

Likewise I give and bequeath unto my son Abraham aforesaid, his Heirs and Assigns all that Lott of land known by the name of the Hemp Meadow.

Item I give and bequeath unto my second son Daniel Haring all that real and personal Estate here after named (provided he pays the severall Legacies and Conditions hereafter expressed (that is to say) First I give my son Daniel aforesaid my Dwelling House and all the Lands that belongs to the Farme I live on with the improvements thereunto belonging (Except one of the best Rooms in the said House, a Garden, Piece of Land, Room in my Barne, and the third part of the Apples out of my orchard to my wife Derica) during her Live of remaining my Widdow (and except) them certain acres of Land that I have given unto my son Abraham to be taken of the South End bounds of the Farme I live on, and to be added unto the Church Lott, and to make the said Church Lott, as my acres of Land in number as the remainder of the Farme I live on (all the remainder and residue of my House, and the Farme I now live on with all of the improvements thereunto belonging after the Decease of my Wife Derica I give unto my son Daniel aforesaid his Heirs and Assigns (provided he compleyes as aforesaid).

Secondly I give unto my son Daniel aforesaid a piece of Land lying on the East Side of the Kings Road, which piece of Land I bought of Ram Ramse (provided he compleys as aforesaid)

Item I give and bequeath unto my youngest son Cornelius Haring All that Reall and personal Estate hereafter named (provided he pays the severall Legacies and on Conditions hereafter espressed) that is to say)

First I give my son Cornelis aforesaid all that Lott of Land that lays over Hackensack Crick, which I purchased of Lanckerst'n Symes with the Improvements thereunto belonging to him, his Heirs and Assigns.

Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my son Cornelius aforesaid the Ring Boome Lotts of Land and one Lott of fresh meadow Land No 4. Item In case either or any of my three sons before named should please God die not leaving an Heir (then and in such Case) I give and bequeath all such Real Estate as aforesaid expressed and Willed 9to my Surviving Sons), their Heirs and Assigns, and on conditions that they or either of them discharges and pays the Legacies hereafter expressed.

Bequeath unto my three sons above mentioned all there two Hill Lotts to be divided amongst them equally. And if in case for Time to come any Incumberance or Danger of Damage should arise upon the above said Lands given to my three sons before named, I will that they one shall help the other to discharge such cases arising.

Item I give and bequeath unto my sons Abraham & Daniel aforesaid all that one Eight part out of three sixteenth parts in the Commons of the Lands in Tappan to them and their Heirs and Assigns each the half, provided they perform the covenants before expressed, Also I will that half years or within a half year after my Decease that my three sons Abraham Haring, Daniel Haring & Cornelius Haring shall give and grant a Transport to each other for the aforesaid Lands by me to them willed.

Item I give and bequeath unto my son Daniel Haring one plow and Harrow with Tackling sufficient, there to belonging.

Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Rachell Haring before her Marriage an outset to be equally as good of all sorts as any of my Daughters hath had, and to be purchased out of my personall Estate.

Item I give and bequeath unto my eldest Daughter Margaret Demorie & to her Heirs and Assigns one Hundred Pounds New York Currancy (the first payment twelve pounds ten shillings) two years after the Decease of my wife Derica, and every year after, the same sum of twelve pounds ten shillings every year after, the same sum of twelve pounds ten shillings ever year until the said hundred pounds is full completed, and the said Legacy be paid and discharged by my three sons Abraham Haring, Daniel Haring & Cornelis Haring their Heirs and Assigns in considerations of the real Estates I have aforesaid willed to them and their
Heirs.

Item I give and bequeath unto my second Daughter Braca Ferdon One Hundred pounds New York currency, and to be paid to her and her Heirs and Assigns by my three Abraham Haring, Daniel Haring & Cornelis Haring their Heirs and Assigns in considerations of the aforesaid Real Estate that I have willed to them, and to be paid by them their Heirs or Assigns in the same Manner and at the same Times and payments, as I as I have ordered and willed them to pay my Daughter Margaret Demories.

Item I give and bequeath unto my youngest Daughter Rachell Haring and to her Heirs and Assigns one hundred pounds New York currency to be paid by my three sons, Abraham Haring, Daniel Haring & Cornelis Haring their Heirs and Assigns in consideration of the aforesaid real Estate that I have willed to them (in the same Manner and at that same Manner of Times and payments) as I have ordered and Willed them to pay my Daughters Margaret Demories and Braca Ferdon aforesaid)

Item I will also that the payments abovesaid to be paid by my three sons Abraham Haring, Daniel Haring & Cornelius Haring to my three Daughters Margaret Demories, Braca Ferdon, and Rachell Haring shall happen in Manner and Form (as followeth)

That is to say my son Abraham Haring shall pay towards the above payments to my three Daughters Margerit Demories, Braca Ferdon & Rachell Haring (thirteen Pounds fifteen shillings till the above sums be completed, My son Daniel Haring shall likewise pay yearly towards the above payments to my three Daughters Margerit Demories, Bracka Ferdon and Rachall Haring thirteen pounds fifteen shillings till the above sums be completed, my son Cornelius Haring shall pay yearly towards the above payments to my three Daughters Margerite Demories, Braca Ferdon and Rachell Haring (Ten Pounds currency money as aforesaid until the above sums be paid and completed.

Item I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Derica Haring all the remainder and residue of my personal Estate for her use (the choice of one of the best Rooms in my Dwelling House with a Gardne Spott of Ground and Roome in my Barne for then Head of Cattle, and one third part every year of all the apples that my orchard shall produce, and to be performed and done by my son Daniel Haring during the lifetime or remarriage of my said wife Derica (and after the death or remarriage of my said wife then I give and bequeath the said Roome, Garden Spott, use of my Barne and the third part of apples as before devised) unto my son Daniel his Heirs and Assigns.

Item I give and bequeath unto my wife Derichea during her life and remaining my Widdow, wood sufficient for one Fireplace, Long Fauder [fodder%E2%80%A6something fed to domestic animals] for ten head of cattle & six sheep to be delivered to her at my Dwelling House by my two sons Abraham & Daniel before mentioned.

Item I give and bequeath unto my wife Derichea and remaining my Widdow the one third part of all the Winter and Summer Graine and Flax that shall raised of all or any the Lands heretofore given and willed by me unto my three sons before mentioned every year to be delivered at my Dwelling House clear and free for her use during her life, and remaining my Widdow. And likewise that my sons Abraham Haring, Daniel Haring shall from time to time and at all times procure and permit and allow my Wife aforesaid free, pasturage for ten head of cattles, six sheep and two Hoggs during her Life and remaining my Widdow as aforesaid (and whereas I have given and bequeathed my real Estate unto my three sons before mentioned & to their Heirs (is on considerations that they and their Heirs shall comply an doe all that I have herein willed, ordered and directed them to doe)

Item I give and bequeath unto my sixe children before mentioned all my personal Estate after the Decease of my Wife Derichea, to be equally divided amongst them or their Heirs share and share alike.

Item I give and bequeath unto my three sons before mentioned their Heirs all the remainder and Residue of my real Estate wheresoever and whatsoever that I shall Dye possessed of (that is not herein willed and Devised unto them be devided share and share alike, unto them, and any Estate that I shall be interested in

(my Debts being paid and Funerall Expenses discharged (I doe make, ordain, and constitute my three sons before mentioned full and sole Executors, and my Wife Derichea Executrix of this my last Will and Testament, Revoking all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made and establishing these presents to be and stand as and for my last Will and Testament.

Be it Remebered that on the fifth day of May one thousand seven hundred and seventy two personally came and appeared before me Edmund Fanning Surrogate of the Province of New York, Corneles Meyer of Orange County, Farmer, and being duly sworn on his oath declared that he did see Abraham Haringh sign and seal the within written Instrument purporting to be the Will of the said Abraham Haringh bearing Date the Tenth Day of March one Thousand seven hundred and fifty two, and heard him publish and declare the same, as and for his last Will and Testament, that at the Time thereof he the said Abraham Haringh was of sound disposing mind and memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of him the Deponent, and that his name subscribed as a Witness to the said Will of his own proper Handwriting which he subscribed as a Witness to the said Will in the Testator's presence and that the Deponent likewise saw Caparis Mebie and John Dewint the other Witnesses to the said Will subscribe their names a Witnesses thereto in the Testators presence.

◦Richard Edsall, surveyor, prepared a bond dated 4 Nov 1721 by which the
"freeholders of the ownship of Tappan" bound themselves to defend the title to certain parcels of land that had been sold by the patentees to defray the costs of the survey and division.

Item I give and bequeath unto my youngest Daughter Rachell Haring and to her Heirs and Assigns one hundred pounds New York currency to be paid by my three sons, Abraham Haring, Daniel Haring & Cornelis Haring their Heirs and Assigns in consideration of the aforesaid real Estate that I have willed to them (in the same Manner and at that same Manner of Times and payments) as I have ordered and Willed them to pay my Daughters Margaret Demories and Braca Ferdon aforesaid)

Item I will also that the payments abovesaid to be paid by my three sons Abraham Haring, Daniel Haring & Cornelius Haring to my three Daughters Margaret Demories, Braca Ferdon, and Rachell Haring shall happen in Manner and Form (as followeth)

That is to say my son Abraham Haring shall pay towards the above payments to my three Daughters Margerit Demories, Braca Ferdon & Rachell Haring (thirteen Pounds fifteen shillings till the above sums be completed, My son Daniel Haring shall likewise pay yearly towards the above payments to my three Daughters Margerit Demories, Bracka Ferdon and Rachall Haring thirteen pounds fifteen shillings till the above sums be completed, my son Cornelius Haring shall pay yearly towards the above payments to my three Daughters Margerite Demories, Braca Ferdon and Rachell Haring (Ten Pounds currency money as aforesaid until the above sums be paid and completed.

Item I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Derica Haring all the remainder and residue of my personal Estate for her use (the choice of one of the best Rooms in my Dwelling House with a Gardne Spott of Ground and Roome in my Barne for then Head of Cattle, and one third part every year of all the apples that my orchard shall produce, and to be performed and done by my son Daniel Haring during the lifetime or remarriage of my said wife Derica (and after the death or remarriage of my said wife then I give and bequeath the said Roome, Garden Spott, use of my Barne and the third part of apples as before devised) unto my son Daniel his Heirs and Assigns.

Item I give and bequeath unto my wife Derichea during her life and remaining my Widdow, wood sufficient for one Fireplace, Long Fauder [fodder%E2%80%A6something fed to domestic animals] for ten head of cattle & six sheep to be delivered to her at my Dwelling House by my two sons Abraham & Daniel before mentioned.

Item I give and bequeath unto my wife Derichea and remaining my Widdow the one third part of all the Winter and Summer Graine and Flax that shall raised of all or any the Lands heretofore given and willed by me unto my three sons before mentioned every year to be delivered at my Dwelling House clear and free for her use during her life, and remaining my Widdow. And likewise that my sons Abraham Haring, Daniel Haring shall from time to time and at all times procure and permit and allow my Wife aforesaid free, pasturage for ten head of cattles, six sheep and two Hoggs during her Life and remaining my Widdow as aforesaid (and whereas I have given and bequeathed my real Estate unto my three sons before mentioned & to their Heirs (is on considerations that they and their Heirs shall comply an doe all that I have herein willed, ordered and directed them to doe)

Item I give and bequeath unto my sixe children before mentioned all my personal Estate after the Decease of my Wife Derichea, to be equally divided amongst them or their Heirs share and share alike.

Item I give and bequeath unto my three sons before mentioned their Heirs all the remainder and Residue of my real Estate wheresoever and whatsoever that I shall Dye possessed of (that is not herein willed and Devised unto them be devided share and share alike, unto them, and any Estate that I shall be interested in
