Abraham Willet Lyon was born on April 8, 1773 in Hanover Township, Morris, New Jersey, United States. His parents were Capt. Abraham Lyon and Phoebe Lyon.

Abraham married Margaret Laracy on November 15, 1821 in Knox, Ohio, United States.

Abraham married Jane Lyon on September 19, 1799 in Morris, New Jersey, USA. Together they had the following children:

• Daniel Lyon;
• Joseph Conger Lyon;
• Phoebe Douglass;
• Charlotte Merrihew;
• Cyrus Lyon;
• Marcus Lyon;
• John L Lyon;
• Abraham Lyon.

He died on April 15, 1843 in Knox County, Ohio, United States and was buried after April 15, 1843 in Wayne Baptist Cemetery, Knox County, Ohio, USA.

Notes left by Mary Ursula Moore Lyon

AbramWillet grandfather of Isaac (Willet) Lyon, was a descendant of one of the four Lyon Brothers that were very active in Scotland and England. It is not known which one, but our New England Lyon families are unquestionably descendants of the noble Lyon family of North Britain. They are mentioned by Burke in his" Landed Gentry". It is believed that General Nathaniel Lyon descended in direct male line from Hon. Sir Thomas Lyon of Auldbar, Forfarshire, North Britain.

Mary Ursula writes that at a Lyon Reunion in Fredericktown, Ohio, she learned that in the early days there were four Lyon brothers of nobility that traveled back and forth from England and United States. Mary Ursula often mentioned the fact that on the Lyon Family Tree a branch direct from Queen Victoria included her husband's family; and we must not overlook the fact that the name of the wife of King George VI was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.

Hon. Sir Thomas Lyon, above, was designated Master of Gamis. He was also one of the principal agents in the seizure of King James VI at the raid of Ruthren on August 23, 1582. He was banished to England but returned and was then received by the King. He was appointed Captain of the Guards and High Treasurer of Scotland and was made Extraordinary Lord of Sessions. He was knighted

in 1590. His wife was Agness, daughter of Lord Gray. She died, and he married Euphenna, daughter of William Douglas, Earl of Moreton.

There was a John Lyon, son of C. Wesley Lyon who married a daughter of George Gladstone, Archbishop of St. Andrews.

Political and civil trouble forced several members of the Lyon family to emigrate to New England in the seventeenth century. Thomas and Ephraim Lyon, who were brothers, came with General Nathanial Lyon to New England. Records show that Ephriam Lyon was born 1737. He settled in Ashford, Connecticut. He died May 25, 1798. He served for a year in the War of Independence. Later he became a lawyer and farmer of Ashford. He married Esther Bennett & their children were Nathan, who married Latimer Badger. He was born April 29, 1765.
