On January 6, 1905 aboard the SS Pennsylvania, sailing from Hamburg, Abraham (age 26) and Pessa (age 23) Winter and Samuel (age 28) and Sara (age 27) Bleiweiss emigrated to Toronto, Canada via the Port of New York, arriving there January 22, 1905. Their destination was listed as a cousin Jakob Bokanek in Toronto.
Abraham Winter Headed Synagogue Funeral service was held yesterday for Abraham Winter of Westover Hill Rd a founder and one of the first presidents of the Toronto Hebrew Benevolent society. He died Thursday in his 83rd year. Interment was in Dawes Rd cemetery. A Toronto resident for 55 years, Mr Winter was also founder and first president of the Czenstochover Aid society; a founder and past president of the Beth Jacob synagogue and the Jewish Home for the Aged and a member of Beth Sholom synagogue. Mr Winter is survived by three sons, two daughters, 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. His wife Paula predeceased him in 1945.
WINTER, Abraham- On Thursday Jan 26,1961 at the New Mount Sinai hospital, Abraham Winter of 46 Westover Hill Rd, beloved husband of the late Paula Winter, dear father of Jack of Ottawa, Mrs S. C. Schiller (Gert), Mrs H Sherman (Sarah) Dr Ben Winter of Los Angeles and Lou of Toronto and the late Dr Harry Winter. Survived by 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
