Revolutionary War Veteran, Absalom Hurst's record of birth is found in the Overwharton Parish Register 1720-1760. He is my 5th g-grandfather. I grew up in Wythe Co VA where he lived.

"1750, 15 May, Stafford Co., Virginia Birth of Absalom Hurst, son of Thomas Hurst, Overwharton Parish, (Stafford/King George County Virginia.).
We know Absalom died before Sep 1830 as his heirs left this court document: excerpted

This Indenture made this eleventh day of Sept. in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and thirty, between:

John Hurst and Molley his wife

Jacob Odle & Sally his Wife

John Nunn & Elizabeth is wife

Spencer Breeding & Winney his Wife,

heirs of Absalum Hurst decd. of the County of Wythe and State of Virginia of the one part

and William Hurst of the County & state aforesaid of the other part."

Absalom Hurst 's signsature is recorded on a petition dated 16 Oct 1776. It was called the "Ten-Thousand Name" Petiton for Religous Freedom. 

I have copies of the pages of the petition from Library of Congress.

Absalom and wife, Elizabeth had several children, including John, Winifred, Sarah, William, Elizabeth, Thomas and Jeremiah.

They removed to the Reed Creek area of Wythe County, Virginia. After the death of Absalom, his heirs were listed on the land deeds in Wythe County. He died sometime between 1820 and 1830.

Shenandoah County Deeds show Absalom's wife to be named Elizabeth.

"Southwest Times", a Pulaski County, VA newpaper has article from November, 2000, regarding history of the area. Article indicates that Absolom Hurst and family were the first settlers in the Hiwasse, Wythe County, now Pulaski County, Virginia in 1779. They arrived from Shenandoah, Virginia.

Thomas Hurst, Planter at Overwharton Parish, Virginia. His father is likely to be the John Hurst, born 1675 and died 1747 Overwharton Parish. Documents and land records exist for John and Jane Hurst. Deborah Shelton Wood

From B.Biddlecome, "Thomas and his sons Absalom and John "Mill Creek" moved to the Shenandoah Valley in present Page County by 1769. They lived on Pass Run and Dry Run east of the current city of Luray.
