About Adam Leonidas Steele

Adam Leonidas Steel, 91, Springville, died at Eldred Sunset Manor of causes incident to age Sunday afternoon. His death is one more taken from the thinning ranks of Utah pioneers who either came to the territory or were born here before the linking of the transcontinental railroad at Promontory Point on May 10, 1869. He was born February 7, 1869, in Springville, a son of Jesse Pierce Steel and Nancy Evaline Alexander Steel. He married Sarah Anna Holseybrook Auggust 28, 1899, in Moab. She died April 7, 1956. He was a lifetime resident of Springville except from 1900 to 1916 when he lived in Colorado where he was a rancher. He was a farmer and had been employed in construction work. He was a member of the LDS Church. His hobby was gardening.

Surviving are four sons and five daughters: Mrs. J. C. (Ann Lee) Hapmaker of Graham, Wash.; Jesse Steel and Thomas H. Steel, both of Spanish Fork; William H. Steel and Mrs. Golden (Gwen) Huff of Springville; Joe A. Steel of Orem; Mrs. Evaline Oliver and Mrs. Alfred B. (Chloe) Callister, both of Grantsville; Mrs. Gerald (Viola) Carlson of Eureka; 34 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Berg Mortuary of Springville Wednesday at noon with Bishop Richard K. Miner of Springville Second LDS Ward officiating. Friends may call at the mortuary Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday prior to services. Interment will be in Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
