Biographical Summary

"Sir Frederick William Erskine Nicolson, Baronet [S 1637], only son and heir; born 22 April 1815, at Ham Common; succeded to the Baronetcy, 5 August 1820; entered the navy, 1827; Capt. 1846; C.B. 1859; Commodore Superintendent of Woolwich Dockyard, 1861-64; Rear Admiral of the Blue, 1863; Vice-Admiral 1870-73; Admiral (retired) 1877; sometime Chairman of the Thames Conservatory Board. He married firstly, 26 May 1847, at St George's Hanover Square, Clementina Maria Marion, 2nd daughter of James Loch, of Drylaw, co Edinburgh, by Ann, daughter of Patrick Orr, of Bridgeton. She died 17 July 1851, at 15 William Street, Knightsbridge, aged 27. He married secondly, in 1855, Augusta Sarah, widow of Capt. Hay, only daughter of Robert Cullington, of Old Lakenham. She died 19 April 1861, at 15 William Street. He married thirdly, 16 August 1867, at Lydeard Sait Lawrence, Somerset, Anna, only child of R. Crosse, niece of Rev. James Crosse, M.A., Rector of that parish. She died 8 January 1896, at 26 Kensington Park Gardens (Ladbroke Square today), Notting Hill. He died 29 December 1899, aged 84, at 39 Egerton Gardens."
