About Adolf (Avraham) Edelman
Record of Birth in Hrabkov, line 20
Matzeva: The following is a partial - though mostly-complete - translation by Leah Cohen (via Jewish Genealogy Portal on Facebook):
"[this] stone bears witness".
לבנו ביקוד כי הרחיק נדוד Our hearts were aflame because you wandered far off (see Psalms: 55:8)
בגני פאר והוד זה רע וזה דוד The Rabbani, renowned for Torah scholarship, the fear of G-d and the innocence and integrity of his ways.
בליל/כליל המרעים סובך בירכתים״ Our master and teacher Avraham Aharon Edelman, son of our master and teacher, Tzvi Aryeh HaKohen. Passed away on the 29th day of Tishrei, 5682, as we count. Aged [4]6 years.
There are several lines which I can't read. L1: I see the name Avrohom spelled out horizontally. L2: Aharon, L3: ben, L4: Tzvi, L5: Aryeh. Below that says, "May his merit protect us . . . ". And finally, "May his soul be bound to the bond of life."
L2: "In the garden of splendor and majesty, this one is a friend [or a bad person, depending on the meaning of "רע״] and this one is beloved." [Here there are some kabbalistic images: a splendid garden, and the words "pe'er" and "hod" are among the 10 "sefirot" or atributes of G-d, according to kabbalists.] L3: "[On the eve of ?] he got caught up in the edges." I also see below the phrase "Ari be'mistarim". "Ari" was his father's name, of course, but it also means "lion". And "Mistarim" means secrets, things that are hidden. So this *may* mean that the deceased was strong (excelled) in mysticism or kabbalah. OK! I checked. Pe'er (majesty) does not appear to be one of the sefirot, but "hod" ( splendor) is. Also mentioned below is the phrase "Tzvi Tiferet". "Tiferet" (beauty) is also one of the sefirot.”
