Adriaen Lamberts Smeets/Smits

Note: Originally from Sint-Lambertskerk-Herk, just SW of Hasselt. He took up residence in Tuil, which is in the Tielerwaard, north of the River Waal and west of Tiel in the Gelderland, Netherlands.

"Adriaen Lammertsen van Tielderweert, (2nd) wife and six children (of two marriages)17,15,11,7, 5 and 3 arrived in New Netherland in 1663 on the ship Rosenboom. ("Rose Tree")

resided Tierldorveen, Netherlands. He was a soldier stationed at Tiel, under Capt. De Swart.

Residence: BET 1648 AND 1657 Tuil, Gelderland, Netherlands

He and his sons Adriaen and Cornelius obtained the Tappan Patent in the 1680s, and all the (early) Rockland County Smiths come from this group.

origin

The Tielerwaard, as it is called nowadays, is a polder in the centre of the Netherlands, some 30 km south of Utrecht. If you have a map of the Netherlands, you should look for the towns Tiel and Gorinchem as the Tielerwaard is the region between those two towns.

Adriaen was born bef. 1625. He is recorded as'' Ariaen Lambertse Smeets a soldier''  who married 

(1) 13 June 1647" Willemke Jans daughter of Jan Coen "DRC in Tuil.

(2) He married a second time: 7 Sept. 1656 Dirckse Cornelis y.d. of Haeften DRC in Tuil.

name conventions

All his children are recorded with Adriaensen van Thuyl Nobody is recorded as "Smith" until son his son "Lambert Adriaens Smith" in New Jersey in 1706.
