About Aeneas MacBean

NOTE: there is an error with this profile. (Resolved)

Aeneas MacBean was the eldest son of William MacBean of Kinchyle, 13th Chief of Clan MacBean. He died before his father, sometime after 6th December 1720 and before 18th May 1722, as confirmed in the Clan's official records and attested to in legal documents.

Aeneas MacBean, younger of Kinchyle. His only surviving heir into later adulthood was his daughter Margaret.

On page 487 of his 'The Mackintoshes and Clan Chattan' (1903), A. M. Macintosh wrote: Æneas, eldest son, was a captain in Mackintosh’s regiment in 1715. He m. in 1718 Isabel, dau. of Rod. Mackenzie of Redcastle, with issue one dau., Margaret, who on 22 July 1765 is served heir “of provision” to her father under his marriage-contract. I have been unable to find the date of Æneas’ death, but he probably survived the ’45.

However, it is known that Aeneas died at some point between 6th Dec. 1720 (when he is cited as living) and 18th May 1722 (when he is cited as dead). The earlier date of 6th Dec. 1720 arises from a record of a bill dated 6th December 1720 granted by 'Angus McBean of Kinchyle' to Angus McIntosh of Culchlachy - Source: Testament Dative of Farquhar McGillivray of Dunmaglass who died in 1740, at Kinchyle House itself. The later date of 18th May 1722 is the date of confirmation of the Testament Dative & Inventory of George Forbes, Writer in Inverness, within which document Aeneas is cited as dead, in a section dealing with a debt owing. The relevant wording is: William McBean of Kinchyle and the deceast Æneas McBean younger therof.

His father's heir therefore became Aeneas's next brother (William's 2nd son) Major Gillies 'Mor' MacBean, 14th Chief in succession to William.

William MacBean of Kinchyle, 13th Chief of Clan MacBean is NOT the same individual as 'William Edward MacBean' who appears on Geni as father of an Edward Price MacBean. This mix-up arose in some unknown way, but it has created a huge amount of confusion and needs untangling. The father of William Edward MacBean is another man than the father of William MacBean of Kinchyle, 13th Chief of Clan MacBean.

Here is a profile for Aeneas's father, which provides details of all of Aeneas's siblings:
