About African-American woman
Sallye Bell's mother is unknown, however, as shown in "Finding Your Roots," her daughter's maternal haplogroup originates in Africa, suggesting Sallye's mother was Mulatto or Black and that her maternal grandmother was almost certainly Black.
Sallye was likely conceived in early December 1913. "Our Mountain Home," a Talladega newspaper, said on November 12, 1913
John A. Darden, of Goodwater, and B. E. Samuels, of Sylacauga, were visiting lawyers attending court here Tuesday.
This statement corroborates Sallye's obituary stating she was born in Talladega county, rather than Goodwater as stated in "Finding Your Roots."
