About Ala Mallory
There are two possible versions of this configuration - this is the earlier and more likely one. It is based on Mallory family records about Sir Anketil (unfortunately there were two of them, father and son) and the possession of the manor of Sudburgh.
- Anketil Mallory granted the manor (in stages) to Thomas Grene of Isham, spouse of his daughter (or sister) Ala.
- John Grene, eldest son and heir inherited the manor.
- John Grene married a woman named Isabel (last name unknown).
- They had a son named Thomas.
- On John Grene's death, William Mallory (the MP from Papworth St Agnes) seized and withheld the manor from the widow Isabel.
- On William's death (1445), Isabel recovered the manor and her son Thomas inherited, until Thomas Mallory (son of William), unjustly disseized him of it.
- On Thomas Mallory's death in 1469, Thomas Grene recovered possession of Sudburgh.
This configuration makes it impossible for John Grene to be the same person as John "The Fugitive" Greene.
