Albert Egly
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today for a former Berne banker, Albert Egly, 95, of Terre Haute, who died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Union hospital, Terre Haute. Burial was in the Leo cemetery. The C.M. Sloan & Sons funeral home was in charge of arrangements and the funeral was held there.
A former resident of Berne and then of Fort Wayne, Egly was a retired banker, attorney and accountant who organized Grabill State Bank in 1906 and the New home Telephone Company.
He was also an organizer of Allen County Electric Light and Power Co. which served northeast Allen County, and had an accounting service in Fort Wayne before suffering a stroke in 1969. He moved at that time to the home of his son, Dr. Richard Egly, in Terre Haute.
A native of Geneva, he attended school at Valparaiso University and at the age of 19 taught at the Summer session there. He later graduated from Ormsby-Rinehart Business College, Bluffton.
Mr. Egly was assistant cashier of the Peoples State Bank, Berne, before organizing State Bank of Grabill in 1906, as its cashier and president for 20 years.
He was elder emeritus of the First Christian church (Disciples of Christ), Fort Wayne, and had been a former active member of Central Lions Club, and was quite active in Izaak Walton League, Acres, Inc., and the Anthony Wayne Stamp Club.
Surviving in addition to the son is one sister, Mrs. Raymond Filer of Geneva.
