WW2 SERVICE
Unless I am very much mistaken, this is our Albert enlisting in 1940 in Queensland.
Service No. Q49433: Albert Richardson; enlisted 2.9.1940 at Annerley, Queensland; born Tasmania 31 March 1916; age 24yrs; waiter; single; no prior service; NoK Jessie Richardson, mother of 266 Vulture St South Brisbane; C of E; Fit Class 1 for service. Described as dark complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, 5'9" tall.
He was discharged at the end of 1944.
Albert spent a fairly uneventful time in the Army Service Corps until he was sent to Milne Bay in PNG in July 1943.Hospitalised with malaria Jan 1944, returned to Milne Bay in Feb; detached for duty with HQ 8th Aust Infantry Brigade in Feb 44, then HQ 1st Aust Infantry Brigade in April, another bout of malaria, evacuated by Field Ambulance with something wrong with left leg, later diagnosed with abscess on left groin - all in June 1944; embarked Katoomba from Madang returning to Australia in July 1944. In October 1944 he was fined for his first offence but the writing is so poor I cannot tell what it was for.
In November 1944 Albert was transferred out to 88 Aust Tpt Pi then seems to go through a discharge process. Discharged at Warwick QLD: Reason A.M.R & O 253A (1) (H) on 22.11.1944. Albert was discharged from the Aust Gen Tpt Coy - 154 AGT
Total service 1071 days, in Aust 421, overseas 533. Sent Returned from Active Service badge no. 85493
In 1986 the Public Trustees requested Albert's will for the Army, but he had taken it on discharge.
