PLYMOUTH Alberta E. Overmyer, 80, 177 Mariposa St., Mercedes, TX,d ied of complications following surgery in Knapp Medical Center,Weslaco, T X, at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000.
Alberta was born the daughter of Frances and Margaret Pfeiffer Hepler on Aug. 10, 1919, in Hamshire, TX. Her family had moved from Kosciusko County to Texas, bought a farm and engaged in rice farming. In 1925,t hey moved back to Indiana and lived in Plymouth where Alberta graduated f om Lincoln High School in 1938.
In the fall of 1938 she met Jack Overmyer. She had moved to Culver from Plymouth to take a job at the Culver Military Academy. They were married on May 3, 1941, in the Plymouth Evangelical Reformed Church, now known as the First United Church of Christ.
Until Jack was drafted in the army in December, 1942, they lived in Culver. Alberta moved back to Plymouth to work at the Office of Price Administration. After the war, "sick of ration coupons," she said, they bought their home in West Township, 10243 Pretty Lake Trail, where they lived and raised their family.
A homemaker, Alberta enjoyed quilting and sewing. She also worked for both the county and the city governments. She was in the Marshall County Treasurer's office and for 18 Years was a deputy clerk treasurer of t he City of Plymouth, retiring in 1983.
Community and the First United Church of Christ were important parts of Alberta's life. A member of the church since she was a young girl, she served as a Sunday school teacher, a church historian and was on the consistory and various other committees. Both Alberta and Jack were active in the scouting program.
She was a retired trustee of the Marshall County Historical Society.
Alberta is survived by her spouse Jack; two sons, James Edward Overmyer and Ellen Weiden, Lenox, MA, and David Eugene and Carolyn Overmyer, Mattapoisett, MA. Also surviving are grandson Matthew Overmyer, Lenox ,MA, t win grandsons, Peter and Michael Overmyer and Granddaughter,Maryanne Ove myer, all of Mattapoisett.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brother, Clarence and Warren Hepler and a sister Ruth Hepler.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Services will be Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 at 11:00 in the First United Church of Christ, 321 N. Center St., Plymouth, with calling one hour prior s services. The Reverends Dr. David Moffett Moore and Dr. Ronald Liechty wi ll officiate.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts may be made to the First United Church of Christ."
