Albertus (66), was hacked to death with an axe. One of his dogs was believed to have been guarding Albertus's body for three days after hewas murdered on his smallholding in Perdefontein near Wallmansthal, north Pretoria. The other dog was waiting at the front door until help arrived. De Jong (66) a Dutchman who came to South Africa in the 1980s, was presumably murdered and robbed between Thursday night and Sunday morning. His attackers left his mutilated body under bushes. His girlfriend, who did not want to be named, became concerned when de Jong did not show up for his usual dinner date in Pretoria on Sunday afternoon. "I called him but got no answer, I last talked to him on Thursday,” she said. She then called two friends and they went with her to De Jong's smallholding to investigate. “When we got there, the gate was open and the lock was gone. The front door was open and as we entered, the place was ransacked. They stole everything, even Albertus' bakkie.” They called the police and decided to wait for them outside the gate. “On the way to the gate, I saw Albertus' body lying under the bushes. The murder weapon lay with him,” she said. She said De Jong had no family and was never married. Const. Police spokesperson Portia Maleka said De Jong's bakkie was discovered last night in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria.
