George Alexander Trebek OC (July 22, 1940 – November 8, 2020) was a Canadian-American television personality, game show host and actor. He was the host of the syndicated game show Jeopardy! after its revival in 1984, and also hosted a number of other game shows, including The Wizard of Odds, Double Dare, High Rollers, Battlestars, Classic Concentration, and To Tell the Truth. Trebek was contracted to host Jeopardy! until 2022. Trebek also made appearances in numerous television series, in which he usually played himself. A native of Canada, he became a naturalized United States citizen in 1998. For his work on Jeopardy!, Trebek received 31 nominations for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host, winning 7 times. Trebek died the morning of November 8, 2020 after battling pancreatic cancer for almost two years.

Born in Sudbury Canada, he was born to a chef who had emigrated to the U.S. when he was a child, and a Franco-Ontarian. He got his first job when he was 13, as a bellhop at the hotel where his father worked as a chef. He did not just host Jeopardy! He also hosted the NBC of a new game show called The Wizard of Odds. The show debuted in 1973. That same year, Trebek emigrated to the U.S. He also made many guest appearances on some of the biggest shows, including on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, How I Met Your Mother, Hot in Cleveland, and many more. He also had a number of health problems throughout his life. In 2007, he suffered a minor heart attack in his home, but fortunately he did recover from. He advertised on TV commercials for Colonial Penn. In December 2017, Trebek was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after reportedly experiencing complications from a fall in October of that same year. In 2019, Trebek received a life-threatening diagnosis. He announced on March 6, 2019, that he had been diagnosed with stage IV (4) pancreatic cancer. Over the next few months, he underwent chemotherapy and seemed to be recovering from the disease. But on November 8, 2020, Trebek died at his home surrounded by family from the cancer. He was 80 years old.
