About Alexander Gedő
Mentioned in article on Ilka Elza Gedo's extended family: http://mek.oszk.hu/07400/07417/html (in German)
Alexander Goldberg, was a famous cantor in the Jewish community, but his alleged preference for alcohol was increasingly evident in his voice, and so he was transferred to smaller and smaller communities, ultimately impoverishing the family. It happened that dinner consisted of just a handful of nuts and a slice of bread. This grandfather Ilka Gedős originally came from a small Lithuanian town near Vilnius, from Tuckum, where he had left numerous siblings behind when he emigrated to Kronstadt in Transylvania. His wife, Katalin Künnelheim, bore him nine children, and the oldest was Simon Gedő.
