Alex MacDonald, 61, Is Heart Victim at Noon Today
Alex MacDonald, sixty one, 514 W. 5th St., a former member of the city police department and religious worker, died late Tuesday morning when he suffered a heart attack while working on a school board job.
He was stricken while unloading heavy bags of cement from a truck at Lincoln School, 831 E. 31st. St. Other school board employees rushed to his assistance and he expired before medical assistance arrived.
Dr. W.G. Stroble, coroner, said that his death was due to a heart condition. The bags of cement MacDonald was unloading from the truck weighed 100 pounds each, the coroner said.
MacDonald was a member of the city police department more than 15 years ago. He resigned and later was a game warden. He also was active as a religious worker and years ago was often seen on downtown corners delivering sermons.
He was a marine fireman and was well known years ago on the lakes. Of late he had been employed in the maintenance department of the school board and during past winters had worked at his old occupation as a fireman.
Funeral services were to be completed this afternoon.
Surviving are his widow, Ada MacDonald; a daughter, Mrs. Robert W. Devine, Erie; and two step children, Jay Glenn Bennet and Mrs. Walter Yost.
