Alexander was son of John and Mrs. Mayne. He had at least 2 brothers and a sister: Walter b. 1542; Cuthbert b. 1548; and Alicia b. 1550.

He married an unknown wife in Hatherleigh, Devon, England and they had at least 3 sons and a daughter:

1. Richard b. 1594;
2. Elizabeth b. 1599;
3. Jasper b. 1604; and

He is said to have been a sheriff in 1597. He is said to be buried in St. Petroch's Church Cemetery in Exeter, Devonshire, England. Devonshire is now Devon and he is said to have been born in Hatsburgh. I couldn't find Hatsburgh or the cemetery on FAG
