Alexander Ramsay, var kapten och kommendant i Skottland enligt bördsbrevet 1623 (?). Deltog vid den unge konungen Jakob VI:s sida i inbördeskriget i Skottland och utmärkte sig, enligt samma bördsbrev, särdeles 1571 vid intagandet av det fasta slottet Dumbarton i Lennoxshire, då han med sin trupp först besteg slottsmuren. Medföljde påtagligen sedan den värvade skaran av 3000 skottar, vilken på sommaren 1573 över Göteborg anlände till Sverige och av vilken flertalet, efter Charles de Mornay sammansvärjning i oktober s. å. förflyttades till Livland över Finland.

Död före 1576-05-16 i Riga.

Gift med Matilda Anand, dotter av översten för k. gardet i Skottland Andrew Tomasson Anand, av huset Persie, och Helena Robertsdotter Strachane af Brigtoun.

Enligt adelsvapen är han av Ramsay of Dalhousie.

Alexander Ramsay was captain and commendant in Scotland according to the birth letter 1623 (?); served in the civil war in Scotland and distinguished, according to the same birth letter, extraordinarily 1571 at the capture of the fixed castle Dumbarton in Lennoxshire, when he with his troop was the first to climb the wall of the castle; followed obviously then the enlisted troop of 3,000 Scotsmen, which in the summer of 1573 arrived in Sweden via Göteborg and of which majority after Charles de Mornay's conspiracy Oct s.y. were moved to Livland via Finland.

Alexander Ramsay of Balnabreich was born circa 1520.1 He was the son of William Ramsay of Balnabreich and Janet Lindsay.1 He married Matilda Annand of Persie, daughter of Andrew Thomasson Annand of Persie and Helena Robertsdotter Strachan of Brigtoun.1 He died in 1576 at Riga, LatviaG.1

He fought in the Siege of Dumbarton in 1571, as a commander.1 He gained the rank of officer in 1573 in the Swedish forces.1
