About Alexander (Sandy) Reid
He was the forth and youngest child in his family.
For more details, see "About" under his wife's profile, Smith Kydd.
From the card index of his arrival in Australia he arrived on October 6, 1841 in the ship James Moran, aged 21. His occupation is listed at Blacksmith, from Arbroath, Forfarshire. His father was Robert Reid, Quarryman; his mother Elizabeth Nichol. He came with his wife, Smith Reid, listed as house servant, also 21, from the same place; daughter of William Kidd, shoemaker, and Elizabeth Leitch (p.231 of "Cowden Family Notes," private history by John Thelwall) (elsewhere, "Leech" ).
For the circumstances of their emigration, see the notes provided at: https://www.geni.com/projects/James-Moran-Scottish-bounty-immigrant-ship-NSW/5451.
He established a very successful blacksmithing business, catering to horses and carriages, and extended into coach building and making of farm machinery. This business was passed down in the generations, and later converted to a car business.
