SIMRIL-Alice Roelofs (Jellema) 85, formerly of Clarence Center, NY died Wednesday, August 29, 2007 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Mrs. Simril grew up in East Aurora and Glendale, OH and graduated from the University of Michigan. After three years service in the US Navy during World War II, she attended the Corcoran School of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She raised three children and was active in environmental and church work.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Verne L. Simril. Survivors include her children, Lyman M. Jellema of Cleveland, OH, Rev. Alice M. Jellema of Baltimore, MD and Joanna G. Kleppinger and her husband, Ron, of Fredericksburg; two step-sons, Scott Simril of Calif. and Mark Simril of Colorado; brother, Prof. H. Mark Roelofs and his wife, Sarah, of East Aurora, NY; two sisters, Miriam H. Ellis of Staten Island, NY, and Joan Garber of Freeport, ME; two grandchildren, Michael and John Kleppinger.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 1, in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Buffalo, New York.
