Prof. Howard Dykema Roelofs, head of the department of philosophy at the University of Cincinnati for many years, died Aug. 12 at his home, Arden Farm in East Aurora, N.Y., where he had lived since his retirement in 1959. He was 81 years old. Prof. Roelofs did his undergraduate work at Amherst College and the University of Michigan and received his doctorate from Harvard. He taught at Michigan, the University of California at Los Angeles, Stanford and Amherst before joining the Cincinnati faculty in 1932. Surviving are his widow, the former Miriam Elberta Hubbard; four daughters, Mary Stott, Alice Jellema, Miriam Ellis and Joan Garber; two sons, Prof Gerrit Roelofs of Kenyon College and Prof. H.
