They were married on May 1,1616 in Stratford on Avon, Warwickshire, England and had nine children who lived in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut according to recent Y DNA testing.
Children now proven with Y DNA testing include:
- 1 William Smith married Elizabeth (_) in Hartford in 1644, consistent with the Willian1 Smith of Stratfordupon-Avon baptized March 23, 1617.'
- 2 Christopher Smith was baptized March 6, 1619. He does not appear in New England until 1654.' Late in life, Christopher1 and his wife, Sarah (_),deeded their lands to his "kinsman Samuel Partridge:' who agreed to care for them in their old age." Christopher and Sarah had no known children.
- 3 Susanna Smith was baptized February 11. 1621. Several genealogies claim that she was the Susanna Smith who married Lawrence Wilkinson of County Durham and Providence.
- 4. Mary Smith married William Partridge in Hartford in 1644, consistent with Mary Smith's baptism on March 30, 1623.
- 5. Samuel Smith was baptized February 20, 1624 and buried November 5, 1628, in Stratford-upon-Avon.
- 6 Simon Smith, first of Hartford, and later of Haddan1, Connecticut, was 56 in 1684, which matches the baptism of Simon on January l, 1628. Simon Smith of Hartford was fined in 1646; his misdemeanor record indicated he was a servant at the Time.
- 7 Joseph Smith was of legal age in May 1653, when he was one of twenty-four men who petitioned the General Court of Massachusetts for "liberty to plant, possess and inhabit Nonotucke [Northampton]." Joseph was baptized on December 30, 1629.
- 8. Benjamin Smith of Warwick, Rhode Island, was said to be about 43 on March 17, 1675, which matches the Stratford-upon-Avon baptism of Benjamin October 30, 1631.
- 9. Edward was baptized March 17, 1633, and was of legal age when he was granted rights as a11 inhabitant of Providence on August 27, 1656.
Please note: (No baptism was found in Stratford-upon-Avon for Thomas Smith. Since his identification in this family is speculative and no DNA descendants have been found, he is not included in this list of children
