About Allen McCombs Yingst
2 Dec 1947: Allen M. Yingst, former master mechanic at the Cornwall Ore Mines of the Bethlehem Steel Company, was found dead in bed, a victim of a heart attack, at 10:45 o'clock this morning, at his home at 212 South Eighth Street. His death came as a shock to relatives and friends as he appeared to be in the best of health on Monday. He spent part of the afternoon at the Ray Shaw auto service station at Eighth and Walnut Streets, and in the evening attended the annual meeting of the Quittapahilla Forest of the Tail Cedars of Lebanon. Upon his return home, he discussed the evening affairs with his wife before he went to sleep. As he appeared to be sleeping this morning when Mrs. Yingst arose, she did not attempt to disturb him, and did not go to the room until 10:45. When she attempted to arouse her husband she was startled to find him dead. Dr. W. H. Brubaker, the county coroner, attributed death to coronary thrombosis. Mr. Yingst, who was 65 years old, was born and reared in Lebanon, the son of the late John, A., and Cora B. (Strickler) Yingst. His father served a term as county commissioner and was widely known. He learned the machinist's trade at the old-time Pennsylvania Bolt and Nut Works, and later entered the employ of the American Iron and Steel Manufacturing Company. He was still there when it was merged into the Bethlehem Steel Corporation and he thus got to Cornwall where he was in service for many years. Mr. Yingst was of the Lutheran faith. He served in Puerto Rico as a member of Lebanon's old-lime Company H, Fourth Regiment, in the Spanish-American War. He was a member of the Spanish War Veterans Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and also of Mt. Olivet Lodge No. 704, F. & A. Masons, and a number of it subordinate organizations and societies. He leaves his wife, nee Daisy K. Miller, and two sons, LeRoy M., of Baltimore, Md., and John D., of Lancaster. Clifford Yingst of this city is a brother and Mrs. Nellie Heilman, and Mrs. Ethel Meehan, both of Brooklyn, N. Y., are sisters. There is one grandson, John A. Yingst, of this city.
