The deceased, Alma Laverne Brown, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. William Hamlin, was born in Illinois, in the year of our lord, Dec 16, 1851, and departed from the scenes of this life at the home of her son Eli Bert Brown, on Wednesday morning January 11, 1928 having reached the mature age of 77 years and 26 days. In her 8th year she with her parents moved from Illinois to Indiana, where they resided for a period of three years, there upon the death of the mother, the family moved to Crawford County, Kansas. While residing in Crawford Country, she was united in marriage to Jeremiah Benjamen Brown in the year of 1872. To this union three children were born. In the year of 1888, the family came to Salida, Colo, where they since made their home. Early in life Mother Brown became interested in the work of the church and took an active part in it. During the last 18 months she was an invalid and suffered much pain at times. but without complaint, she endured patiently, the afflictions of the day, until the summons of the master comes, calling her to himself to be forever free from sickness, pain and sorrow. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Relief Corps. Her husband Jeremiah B Brown was a soldier of the Civil War taking part in General Shermans march to the sea. Mr. Brown preceded her, passed to the great beyond Jan 28, 1923. She leaves to mourn her departure one son, EliBert Brown of Salida, Co, Seven Grandchildren two Great grandchildren, A sister living in Pasadena, Calif. and other relatives and many friends.
Salida Mail, Jan 12, 1928 Mrs. Alma Lavin Brown, aged 76 years, died at 6:20 o'clock Wednesday morning at the home of her son, E.B. Brown, in Adobe Park. She had been a widow for five years. Mrs. Brown was born in Illinois. Later in life she went to Kansas where she made her home, removing to Salida, in 1888. She is survived by one son E.B. Brown and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Friday at the Stewart Chapel, the Rec. S.S. Gerig, pastor of the Baptist Church, officiating.
