"...In 1852 he was called to serve a mission to Nova Scotia and the British provenances in North America. While traveling to Novia Scotia he stopped in Troy, New York to visit his mother's brother Joseph Daggett. He also visited his sister Samantha Buckland Russell in Vermont. He also met his brother James Buckland who was re-baptized by Alondus and the two then proceeded together on the mission to Novia Scotia. He also visited William Buckland his younger brother, who had been given away as a baby due to the financial hardships that the family had earlier experienced..."

"...The mission didn't go well in Novia Scotia and by October of 1853 Alondus was back in Saint Louis, Missouri. He served in the Missouri area until 1854..."

"...He financed the journeys of Samantha Russell and James Buckland to travel back to Utah..."

"...Alondus Buckland and Nancy Aldrich Buckland lived in Mission Delores, CA from September 1846 to June 1847. In October of 1846 he was sent to start a new settlement in New Hope, CA, to plow and put in wheat and then bring their families..."

"...In July of 1847 Alondus moved Nancy and their son Lafayette Buclkand to New Hope. Lafeyette was born 11 Feb 1847 in Mission Delores...."

"...Alondus was likely involved in the gold rush building a large 4 story hotel called the "Buckland House" where the old Palace Hotel hotel was located in San Francisco before the earthquake of 1906..."

Biographical Summary 2 :

"...Son of Joseph Mosley Buckland and Hannah Daggett Buckland. As a young man he was a passenger on the Mormon emigrant Ship Brooklyn. A farmer by trade his work on the "New Hope Farm Project" led to a personal conflict with Samuel Brannan. He married Nancy Laura Aldrich. In July of 1849 Alondus took his wife, a new-born daughter and his mother-in-law, Prudence Aldrich and escorted the "gold train" to Salt Lake City.

He died of cholera while returning to Utah after completing an LDS Mission to the Eastern States..."

Company Information:

Thomas Rhoades led a company of almost 50 people from Sacramento, California, to Salt Lake Valley. Rhoades had taken his family to California in 1846, preceding the Donner Party. The company returned to Utah with substantial amounts of gold discovered and mined in California.

Death:

"Since landing at the Fort, our small company has lost 41 persons by the cholera. Three of our blacksmiths, on whom we were depending, have died. Brothers Alondus D[eLafayette] L. Buckland and Jesse Turpin are both dead; they lived only a few hours after being seized. Those who survived are <many of them> so weakened down by sickness and over exertion that they can scarsely move about. I have been very healthy, though wearied with setting up nights and watching with the sick. My wife that is with me, has been sick 2 weeks with vomiting & purging: for about one week she has been so low that she was not expected to live: she at present is a little better and hopes are entertained that she may survive."
