About Alonzo Woodruff

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Alonzo Woodruff, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 27 October 1864, while serving with Company I, 1st U.S. Sharpshooters, in action at Hatcher's Run, Virginia. Sergeant Woodruff went to the assistance of a wounded and overpowered comrade, and in a hand-to-hand encounter effected his rescue.
