About Alva Hale
Is said to have had remarkable energy in his old age. In Sept. 1871, at age 76, he and his brother David traveled to Missouri to visit a brother. On returning, David went to Nauvoo to visit his sister Emma, while Alva came directly home. Arriving in Mendota and the train for Sublette not being due, he walked home with his satchel and gun without apparent fatigue, a distance of 8 miles. The body of Alva Hale was brought here from Oceola [sic] Wis., last week, for burial in Prairie Repose Cemetery, by his two sons, Jesse and William Hale. Mr. Hale was one of the old settlers of this county. He came here in an early day, lived to see our county well settled, and left a large family in good circumstances. He was in Wisconsin visiting his son-in-law, R. P. Treadwell, at the time of his death. The Dixon Sun, Dixon, Illinois, 25 January 1882, p. 5.
