About Alvin Nathaniel Smith
When Alvin Nathaniel Smith completed his U.S. World War II Draft Registration Card on April 31, 1918, in El Paso, Texas, he described himself as being of medium height and build with gray eyes and light colored hair. He was 21 years old, having been born October 29, 1896, in Colonia Pacheco, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was living at 705 N. Campbell Street, El Paso, Texas, with h is mother, Nancy Ann Smith, and was working as a clergyman for the Churcho f Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. By December of that year, he died during the flue epidemic while on a mission to the Eastern States in Scranton, Lakawanna, Pennsylvania.
Alvin was the son of Jesse Nathaniel Smith, Jr., and Nancy Ann Freeman. Jesse Nathaniel Smith, Jr., was the son of Jesse Nathaniel Smith, Sr., a cousin of the Prophet, Joseph Smith, Jr., and Jesse's first wife, Emma Seraphine West Smith. Nancy Ann Freeman was the daughter of John Woodruff Freeman and Sarah Adeline Collins.
