They would return to fighting after taking care of the farm and family.

1790: Census of Salisbury Dist., Surry County, NC. Ambrose Bramblet head of household: 1 white male over 16; 4 white males under 16; 3 white females. Note: Wondered why he moved to Surry County, then discovered the Callaways, Boones, Bryans were all over this area...could relationships with these people have anything to do with it? Charted distance from town of New London, VA to Surry County, NC and distance was probably not more than 80 miles.

Newest info from: The Draper Papers, an Interview with Daniel Bryan b. 1758 d. 1845, a nephew of Daniel Boone. He was 86 years old when he gave this information.

"Draper papers 22c Daniel Boone Papers Drapers interview with Daniel Bryan, April 1844 Film M-1 Vol 19-22 (Box 8)"

"Ambrose Bramblette, a baptist preacher from Virginia , preached at Bryans Station in the summer of 1779. He was probably the first man who ever preached north of th Kentucky River. The same year, returning to Virginia, he and Aquilla"

(the notes on that page ended there) What is supposed to be the next page starts:

"White went out from camp to hunt, got scared and ran into the f(r?)ight and confusion, White shot Bramblette supposing he was an indian"

Note: Portions missing, need full copy for additional references that might hold clues. Who is White? Is this Stephen White, Agatha's husband? Who is Aquilla? Doesn't say Ambrose Bramlett was killed, just says shot. Was there another Ambrose or did he really mean William Jr? --------------------------------------------------------- 1752 Amb. Bramlett-Harris Home

This comfortable country home in the Toxish Community is a remodeled dwelling incorporating portions of the original log house that provided a home for the prominent early settler, Jesse Hughes Bramlett. Located about three hundred yards behind the dwelling is the Old Bramlett family cemetery. Jesse Hughes Bramlett is the oldest person buried here. He was born in Surry County, N.C. in 1774, son of Ambrose and Jane Woodson Bramlett who migrated from Pittsylvania County, Virginia to Surry County, N.C. in 1774. She was the daughter of Sanbourne and Elizabeth Hughes Woodson of Pittsylvania County, Virginia.

Ambrose and Jane Woodson Bramlett moved from Surry County, N.C. to Wilkes County, Ga. where he died in 1804. Following his death his widow married Jesse White and moved to Alabama. Jesse Hughes Bramlett was married to Esther Wellborne, daughter of Thomas Wellborne of Putnam County, Ga. They moved to Tuscaloosa County, Alabama before 1830 and settled near her sister who married John Tindall. Both families were in Pontotoc by 1840. Jesse Hughes Bramlett died in 1855. His wife Esther Wellborne was born in 1784 in Georgia and died in Pontotoc in 1852. Both are buried in the old family cemetery. Their children were: John Woodson Bramlett, Mary Bramlett who married Thomas Mallory of Georgia, Amanda Colfee, Martha Bramlett who married David Buck, Laura Bramlett, Jesse L. Bramlett and Thomas A.W. Bramlett. He was a physician in nearby Chickasaw County and is buried in the old Friendship cemetery near the Pontotoc County line.

John Bramlett, brother of Jesse Hughes Bramlett, settled in Tennessee. Three of his sons came to Pontotoc. They were Hughes Bramlett, Quincy Bramlett, ancestor of the Bramletts in the northwestern part of Pontotoc County, and Ambrose Jackson Bramlett, great grandfather of Dr. E. S. Bramlett of Oxford, Mississippi.
