Amos Washington McFarlin was the son of Mathew M. and Mary Dick McFarland. He was the husband of Louvina "Vina" Lowe McFarlin. The couple were the parent's of nine children.
Amos's death certifcate list the surname as McFarland, but it is my understanding the tombstone shows the McFarlin spelling of the surname.
This particular McFarland Family ancestor's and descendant's used both spelling's of the surname, and it appears to be a matter of preferance of the individual person. Amos Washington McFarlin was my maternal great-grand father. I recently received a message from a find a grave volunter in which she stated there was not a headstone for Amos Washington McFarland in this cemetery refer to the death certificate added my myself. The death certificate has some errors made by the informant Alice Banes which was his daughter. Amos Washington McFarland father was Mathew M. McFarland, and his mother was Mary "Dick" McFarland.
Amos's death certificate list his year of birth as 1827, but census material leads me to believe he was actually born in the year 1833. Amos was listed with his parent's on the 1850 and 1860 census, for Logan County, Kentucky. And Listed in the 1870 Census for Simpson County, Kentucky, with his wife and three of his children. In the 1880 and 1910 Census he is residing in Ellis County, Texas. I have not found him on the 1900 census as yet.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Dec 8 2020, 19:27:31 UTC
