Anders Olsen

In 1861 Anders Olson and his wife Bertha (Gerhardsdater) Olson came to America with her father Gerhard Christenson and mother Martha Olsdatter. Along with her brothers Johannes (Gerhardson) Hallum and family and brothers Anders and Ole Gerhardson and family's. They all went first to Quebec,Canada and then into Wisconsin by oxen where they set up farming. They lived together for awhile until they could get their own farm.

 They had no children of their own so they became guardians of their nephews Mathias and Niels Christensen, their father and mother were left in Norway to sell their farm and bring the rest of the family over. So Mathias and Niels lived with them for 10 years before they made it over. Mathias was only ten years old when he came over so he excepted Anders and Bertha as his parents and changed his last name to Olson. 

 No records of Niels can be found. He came to Minnesota with them but he was never on the census with the family's. He was 15 years old when he came over,but no record of him after that.

No children they brought their nephew Mathias Christensen with them to America. He changed his last name to Olson.
