According to his account from the ship's pay ledgers he was born in Nagapatnam.

He commenced employment in service of the VOC chamber of Amsterdam with the rank of Assistant (clerk assisting the merchant or trader) on 21-04-1750. He remained in employ until his death on 25-01-1765 in Asia. He departed to the East with his wife on the ship Langewijk. During their en-route refreshment stop-over at the Cape of Good Hope (03-08-1750 to 04-09-1750) they baptized a daughter, named Agnita Theodora, on 20-09-1650.
He (and family) departed from the Cape for the East onboard the Ship Vrijburg, which sailed on 26-10-1750.
