2. Andrew BOORN OR BOURNE - International Genealogical Index / NA
Gender: Male Birth: 1722 Roxbury, Norfolk, Massachusetts
International Genealogical Index LDS site. Andrew Born b. 1722 is listed as a child of Francis Bourne and Charity Wheaton along with his brother Nathaniel Bourne and sister Rache Bourne. All these surnames should be spelled Bourn consistent with the inscriptions located on the grave stones in the Bourn Cemetery located in Somerset, Massachusetts and other records.
Note: William Bourn b. 1680 son of Jared (2) was Andrew's uncle. Two of his sons (about same age as Andrew) William and Stephen settled in Attleboro about the same time as Andrew. William m. Abigail Stanley and had a child Edwin that only lived for 14 mo. and burried Old Kirk. His birth and death dates were just before the marriage of Andrew in 1745. Stephen shows in the burial records of the 2nd congregationl church about the same time that Andrew died. Also not the entire family of "First Cousin" William Bourn b. 1704 was born in Swansea, Massachusetts.
Note - All gravestones related to this family in the Attleboro area other than Andrew's spell the last name Bourn. This is significant because the Jared Bourn line spells there last name the same. Another interesting note is Somerset, Massachusetts is about 20 miles from Attleboro. Andrew would have been 23 his wife Phebe 20 at the time of Marriage. Most people were married at home. People that wed in a church were usually from family's of means. Andrew and Phebe were wed in Boston in the First Presbyterian Church. Jared Bourn (1) and Samual Richardson arrived about the same time in Boston. Boston in 1630's was a small town. More than likely, they knew each other.

In July, 1771, the Massachusetts General Court passed "An Act for Enquiring into the Rateable Estates of this Province." Each town then elected assessors who prepared a list of all taxpayers and taxable property within that town. Printed tax forms listed 27 categories of taxable property and recorded all males 16 years of age and older. This volume offers a transcription of and name index for the 38,000 names found in the Massachusetts Archives manuscript valuations (Microfilm A 180 Volumes 132-134).
8 Dec 1773 Andrew Bourn purchased from the Benjamin Barnam estate 12 acres to the west of his existing property for 20 pounds. His total holdings were now 39 acres

One name was omitted in its proper place. Bourne, Andrew, came (it is supposed from G. Britain) to Attleborough, about 1720, and settled in the East part of the town. All of that name in this vicinity are descended from him. (Andrew had not been born until 1722/23)
The gravestone of Andrew Burn (not spelled Bourn) died March 16, 1778, in Old Kirk Cemetery of Attleboro. Is this a head stone cutter error. Is this our Andrew of March 15, 1777 or another person. Church records show only one Andrew Bourn death between 1768 - 1781. All Baptism records show Andrew Bourn and Phebe spelled Bourn. Church records also reflect admission to the church Jan 28, 1748 Phebe (wife of Andw.) Burne - A. The vitals of Attleboro give two dates Burn March 16, 1778 55 y G.R. 1 and Andrew Born h. Phebe (Richardson) March 15 1777. The G . R. 1 is the code for Old Kirk Cemetery. Maybe Andrew was recorded twice or Andrew (1) and Andrew (2) died within one day exactly one year apart. In those days it was unsure what year it was. I therefore feel the date could read March 15/16 1777/78. This means his birth is 1722 /23.
According to the Vital Records of Attleborough published 1934:
First Line........Andrew (Born), h. Phebe (Richardson), Mar. 15, 1777.
Second Line...Andrew (Burn), Mar 16, 1778, in his 55th y. G. R. 1 ....G. R. 1. = gravestone record, Old Kirk Yard Cemetery....
If you look logically at the above Andrew death dates. The first date reflect the wife as Phebe Richardson the second 55 years old at death 1778-55=1723. Neither date will calculate to 1720 the year Daggett said Andrew arrived.

I am in receipt of your inquiry regarding the marriage of Andrew Bourn and Phebe Richardson in Boston on March 23, 1745. I consulted a number of sources, but have not been able to locate any narrative record of the marriage in question. I have been able to locate the following text published in the Boston Transcript (a genealogy question & answer column published from 1890 to the early 1940s)
"1. Bourne, B. M. N., Jan. 18, 1922. Lieutenant Stephen Bourne of Attleborough, born at Rehoboth June 5, 1752, and married Mary Dyer. He was a Revolutionary soldier from Rehoboth.
Jared (2) had a family at Swansea and died 1717 before or soon after a son was born, whose name is unknown, but corresponds to the date of the birth of Andrew Bourne, born about 1717, died at Attleboro Sept. 14, 1814, married Phebe Richardson. Children: Andrews, Seth, John, Lieutenant Stephen, Ann, Phebe, Moses, Revolutionary soldier for three years, age twenty, five feet, ten inches tall, Eleanor, Zebediah, Mary, married Abraham Cummings, Reuben and Marcy . All the boys that were old enough were in the Revolution.
