Andrew Hume, Lord Kimmerghame

Biographical Summary

"Son of Patrick Hume of Polwart afterwards Earl of Marchmont, and Grisel, daughter of Sir Thomas Ker of Cavers, was admitted an advocate 25th July 1696. He was sheriff depute of the county of Berwick, and, about 1704, was appointed general collector of the tonnage imposed on foreign vessels by act of Parliament 1695, for carrying on an account of the kingdom and geographical description by Slezer and Adair. He represented the burgh of Kirkcudbright from 1700 till 1706, and supported the articles of Union, and was chosen one of the Scottish representatives to the first British Parliament in 1707. He succeeded his brother, Sir Alexander Campbell of Cessnock, as an Ordinary Lord, and took his seat 23d November 1714. He died 16th of March 1730."
